News Release

Ape Music is nearing the end of its troublesome teens. To celebrate the fact we are bringing you past, present and future badboy bass bizness.

As a little teaser for the forthcoming 'From The Vaults' mix album we have dug into the monkey treasure trove and we bring you some special treats from labels bosses themselves, Ben and Lex.

They have revisited their tune 'Makaton' and gone to town on new remixes across many genres each bringin a lil summat special to the table just for you.

Their 2010 VIP remix is a MONSTER of a tune crossing the border of breaks, house and dubstep with badboy steppy beats and a bassline to lose your love juices over.

Also included is the never before released original which they have kept for just their live sets for the last year or so and its a proper straight up breakbeat beast that leans towards funk n bass land of the Plumps and Drumattics... You're welcome :)

First up on the remixes we have the stupidy talented Mr Rob Jones aka Anarchy Rice who has been releasing some insane bangers in the last year for the likes of Acidphonic and Dead Famous. He brings Ape exactly what we like, a hugely bass heavy tech funky stomper….A cheeky mellow pad in the intro hides the wonkathon of bass that arrives in the drop & slaps you firmly in the naughty bits. Beware the Anarchy!

Next up we have US badboys Viro & Rob Analyze who have turned in an awesome electro house/techno behemoth of a remix for us... This is definitely one for the peak time sets ladies and gents.

Next up we have drafted in a local rising star of the Dubstep world, Pulsar, to sprinkle new life into another old Ben & Lex badboy, 'Schizometric' and boy has he done us proud! Rinsing reese bass and heavy ass beats make for a real dancefloor epic... With forthcoming releases on NYC label Code Of Arms and Subdepth Records and remixes for the likes of Skitz, this fella is one to watch for 2010 fo sho!

Hexadecimal VIP mix sounds cool! Anarchy mix is cool but probably not something I'd reach for. Makaton Viro & Rob Analyse mix is cool but is defintely got a heavy deadmau5 influence, good track though! Dubstep mix is cool when it gets going, thanks!

Morphosis Yet another solid release from APE! Covers all the basses, squeaks & bleeps and monkey noises, can’t decide between the VIP and the original, both will be getting a rinse from us! **Essential!**

2 Bit Thugs Sounds hot

DJ Grief Wicked remix package here - something for all! Favouring the VIP mix as it has that mash of sampled breaks and wobble to make the floor shake and bounce. A close second is the Anarchy Rice remix for me - a techier rework with plenty of grit!

601 The Anarchy rice mix will be a biggy i think

Inconspicuous Villain Wow guys! I'm all about the OG and the VIP! This will get some serious play from me no doubt!

Iain Downsy (Dead Famous Recs) Dig the anarchy rice mix. has a good balance between rolling techy groove and nasty nastiness. i love what rob does. good stuffs!

Mobius Original and Anarchy Rice remix are both cool, but the remix just pips it for me. Loving that bassline

DJ Mag - 5/5

Even though you could only really drop this to the most full-on mentalist crowd, I fucking love the VIP of this. West country dudes Ben & Lex throw the kitchen sink into this one: galloping breaks, a mangled fax machine, a ferocious electronic top line, and then skewed, trill, dutty Caspa dubstep bassonomics all make their mark before the first drop. It's an opening salvo that Squarepusher at his most bonkers would be proud of, and after the calm melodic drop there's more of the same wobble yob bass mentalism. The competent other mixes - a breaks one by Anarchy Rice, madcap electro from Viro & Rob Analyze - can't really compete.

Ape Music label heads Ben & Lex offer up the bass big time with their latest release Makaton. The original is a no nonsense monster that's sure to have a devastating effect on the dancefloor. Not content with providing just one massive tune, Ben & Lex also throw in a VIP version that's just as big on the sub frequencies, but this time going with a dubstep inspired wobbler of a bassline. It's built firmly on a foundation of sampled breaks, but they make sure to touch all the bases as the tune hops from breakbeats to house, to dubstep, and back again. On remix duties is Anarchy Rice, who fools you into thinking you're in for a dreamy progressive tune with the melodic pads of the intro before he drops the chainsaw bassline that sounds like it could literally tear you a new one. A few all around proper breakbeat smashers here!
